HellNō Hallō project lead Paul Saso gave a presentation before Nelson City Council in British Columbia recently about the grassroots movement called HellNō Hallō that has arisen in opposition to the Hallō Nelson development that is proposing building $2-million condos on Granite Pointe Golf Course.
The following are the main points of Paul's presentation to council:
We currently have over 1600 signatures. I’m going to read that petition as a representative for all those people who feel strongly enough to sign.
We're currently working with affordable housing experts on an alternative plan that will be proposed to the developers and golf course society soon.
We see council and the city of Nelson as our biggest ally in our goal to protect the culture, character, and affordability of our hometown.
We strongly believe that allowing our finite land base to be developed into a resort-style complex, sold as a fly-in, fly-out destination which will likely be left empty for much of the year, is an offensive design style that we must protect against.
While many Nelsonites could support housing developments on Golf Course lands we demand that any housing development that occurs is directed towards Nelson’s residents and is affordably priced.
What we ask of you now is to put your thinking caps on and figure a way to guide the development of our town onto a better path than Hallo Nelson is currently proposing. Help us realize our community's wish for attainable, sustainable and affordable development for our residents.
Nice work, Paul!
